Assemblyman seeks delay to electric big-rig mandate after fiery Tesla crash

Assemblyman Josh Hoover (R-Folsom) joined a group of Republican lawmakers in calling for Gov. Gavin Newsom to delay a mandate that all big rigs in California be all-electric by the year 2045.

This comes in response to a crash on Aug. 19 of a Tesla all-electric semi-truck on Interstate 80 near Colfax. The crash ignited a huge fire and became a hazardous materials incident due to the rig’s lithium ion batteries. The freeway was shut down for 16 hours while firefighters were forced to wait for the batteries to burn themselves out.
